images streched on Samsung CLP 365W under Linux

I encountered a very strange problem: whenever I printed a document with some pictures it would get stretched. It was driving me nuts until I realized that I have to set the resolution to the default 1600x600dpi.

Manual duplex printing with the Samsung CLP 365W under Linux

The installation of the samsung drivers was described in a previous post.

Here I am describing a little tool called Gnome-Manual-Duplex that adds a GUI for the manual duplex printing. It sports even a .deb file, so installation is extremely easy.

Ondemand governor is switched on automatically

I did a reinstall of Linux on my Laptop (a ThinkPad x61s). Since I am not a fan of Unity and the new flavors of KDE I decided to give Xubuntu (12.04) a try. I have to say that I am quite happy. I just realized one thing: when ever I did a reboot, the governor for the CPU frequency was set to ‘performance’ instead of ‘ondemand’. I was googling around and somebody said that the governor is switched to ‘ondemand’ 60s after booting up. I checked it and it is really true! What an intelligent thing to do.

setup Samsung laser printer CLP 365W under Linux

download driver package from http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/support/model/CLP-365W/XSS-downloads

This is for version 0.87

create softlink for hard coded library files:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.5 /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.5

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libtiff.so.4 /usr/lib64/libtiff.so.3

if those links are missing the printquality is bad.

execute install.sh as root

install printer in printer gui of distro
